And the thought-destroying force of illiteracy is sweltering.

465,000 residents in South Carolina are illiterate--that includes 20% of the adults in the Low country. This demands enormous resources from not only the state, but local and federal government as well.

But you can help extinguish the fire by rescuing your favorite books. For only $25, you can ensure a copy of any book is saved from ignition. And you can be the reason a special book lives on to ignite the passion of reading in another.

Here's how to save a book:

Select the number of books you wish to save below
Click “add to cart”
Make sure you select “quantity of one” on the payment screen
Print out the receipt for tax purposes
Finally, send a quick email to bookburner@lowcountrybookburning.org with the titles/authors of your selections and the reason you chose them. If you would like us to suggest some books for you to save, just let us know!

After you save a book:

You will receive a certificate that shows your books have been forever safe from the fire.
You will be sent email updates as to how many books have been saved and how your donation has helped stamp out illiteracy in the Low country.
